Playset Junction LLC was started in 1991 when a friend wanted to buy a playset for his children. After some shopping, he quickly discovered how pricey the playsets were. That's when we decided to build a playset. We could build what we wanted and save a lot of money doing it. The first plans were drawn by hand using a simple ruler and pencil. This was tedious, but it did work. Along the way, we changed a few things such as a "wobbly bridge" and a bench for the parents. We also made about 10 or 12 trips to the lumber yard because we miscalculated the amount of material we needed!!
We thoroughly searched all the local playset manufacturers for safety issues and design ideas. We critiqued certain playsets while adopting trends from others. All in all, we decided on a rather large layout encompassing a main house, a two level fort attached to the house by a wobbly bridge, stairs going to the house, a slide, sandbox, and a bench for the parents to sit on. These features allowed for a wide variety of activity. Not only for the children, but for the parents as well. We wanted to design a playset for the children, but with the parents in mind. For instance, the bench was a great idea because it allowed the parents to participate in the activities while having a place to relax. We also wanted larger platforms than what we were seeing on most manufacturers. For instance, we decided on 6'X6' platforms for the house and the fort . These were large enough for a couple of kids while allowing the parents to use them as well. A lot of other manufacturers were using 4x4 or 4x5 platforms.
We have tried to encompass unique playsets from years of building and designing. Feel free to add a few of your own touches to any plan we have. In fact, most plans come with several different options so you can choose which option best fits your needs/wants or shall we say your child's needs/wants :-)
